Below is an excerpt from our recent Cultivate PNO at Decadent Desserts.
by Heather McAdow
"As we are starting a new year and there are new faces we thought we’d recap who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going! Cultivate initially started with a group of a few of us that were in a co-op together, our fearless leader Ali Laing (who sadly along with other leaders, is not able to be with us tonight) had the idea to bring out her Charlotte Mason mentor from OK and host a mini conference. So we started building a team which included those here and a few others, to host the conference. One of the biggest take aways from our post conference survey, was that people were desperate for community. They didn’t know where to meet up with other CM families or even how to go about starting their own groups.
So we started praying and discussing how we could help. Ali had always had it in her heart to help families on a large scale, so as we met Cultivate was formed!
We wanted to be facilitators and help cultivate community and bring people from all over the area together in order for them to form their own groups, encourage and equip them with the tools for their CM journey. Our vision statement states just that:
“Cultivate Community is a ministry which provides spaces and opportunities to learn the facets of a Charlotte Mason education and implement them together. Through monthly parent meetings, nature studies, book clubs, and other opportunities for all ages, we hope to equip and strengthen families on this journey through a lifelong love of learning and family discipleship.”
For the last year and a half we have held monthly Cultivate Nights going over CM’s principles, doing immersions, and other CM topics. We have hosted a few nature studies, and family events as well as field trips. Our favorite part has been to see all of you starting to meet up on your own and form relationships and groups! That is our goal!
I’d like to read a passage from
3 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace
Some of the Cultivate leadership team have entered a new, and/or temporary season. We have had some starting new business, and others being called to other ministries. Many of you know about Melanie Miles and her new “traveling season”! Traveling the country in an RV for a year!
We are a team of home school mamas who have a heart to minister to other home school families and the heart of our team has been told by her Dr that this is her season for “rest”!
So with all this seasonal change in the leadership team what does this mean for you——in short, not much! Ha! As we mentioned before, location has been an issue and The biggest change… will be to our schedule. We will be taking a “pause” from our monthly Cultivate Nights in order to free up more time for you all to Cultivate that “community” we’ve been talking about! We will resume our meetings when Ali has the “green light” from her Dr and we are working "on all cylinders."
We on the leadership team plan to host gatherings, such as have been in the past, but we really want to encourage you to reach out and host your own meet ups. If you want to do a last minute park day, or nature hike- post it on FB and invite others. If you want to start your own co-op that meets monthly or weekly, this is a great time for that! If you aren’t on FB, no problem! Send an email to us (our address is on the website) and we can pass on your info to the group! Chelsey has already started the "Wonder Wednesday" and some great conversations and sometimes just silly ones are happening! We need a central way to link up and even though most of us have a love/hate relationship with FB- it can be a great tool!
So that is part of what tonight is about! We called it a PNO instead of our Cultivate Night, because we want this to be about making connections, about finding those who live in your “neck of the woods", and exchanging numbers!"
